DentistryCats build plaque and tartar on their teeth just like we do. Your cat should have an annual dental exam where the veterinarian examines the teeth and gums and looks for oral problems. All cats need routine dental cleaning. The frequency with which this procedure is needed is based on dental health. When dentistry is performed by a veterinarian, the cat is placed under general anesthesia, the teeth are hand scaled, ultrasonically scaled, polished, and fluoride treated. If teeth have large cavities or root exposure, extractions may be needed. Cats with proper dental care can live longer, healthier lives!
